I launch the program with success.
When I choose a folder that has pictures, about 95% of
them show up (a thumbnail). The other 5% don't show up,
the thumbnail is just blank. Sometimes clicking on the
thumbnail works, but often this causes the program to
terminate, and an option is given to receive the error
report.
==========================================
Well now you are describing a new problem...
How many images are in these folders?
This sounds like resource problems. Read the
following collection of suggestions...all are important...
I can offer you some general suggestions that
help me to run several versions of Picture It! on
my old PIII 500, Win XP Home, SP1a...
(fully updated from Windows Update site):
Make certain that your Video, Printer and
Scanner drivers are the most current available.
Check the manufacturer's websites for updated
drivers.
It may be worth a try to reduce your Graphics
Hardware Acceleration as per the instructions
in the following KB article:
(272193) PI: How to Troubleshoot
Graphics Issues
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=272193
If this improves the situation, it is a strong
indicator that you need to update your video
driver.
Before opening Picture It...close all programs
running in the background...*especially* virus
scanners. I use a free download called EndItAll2:
Download EndItAll2.zip
http://safsquad.com/Files/
Run Disk Cleanup (all options), Error-Checking/
ScanDisk and Defrag regularly. (make sure
all your Temp and Temporary Internet files
are deleted).
I even do a search for:
*.tmp, *.gid, *.bak, *.fts, *.chk
....and delete them all...I may be lucky but, so
far...no problems from doing this.
If you are using the 2002 (or earlier) version
of Picture It, and have lots of images saved
in My Documents / My Pictures...it can help
to move them to a different location.
It also may help if you choose "Icon List"
instead of "Thumbnails" on your folder view
when you go to...File / Open. (this setting
will be reflected on your "Save As" screen also)
Having a hard drive that is 50% free doesn't
hurt either.
Running WinXP Home, I found that increasing
my paging file was beneficial...the following
article explains how to do it:
(308417) HOW TO: Set Performance
Options in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308417
One last suggestion...open fewer images
and save often.
