Picture freezes

When I am transferring movies from my camcorder to my computer, after a couple of minutes the picture freezes in the windows movie maker, but the camcorder still keeps playing. Why?
 
Are you using a digital camcorder with a firewire card/cable? A USB transfer
from an analog one? And brand and model info.
