What is the best way to import pictures into your
PowerPoint presentation that will not take up a great
deal of space and will also still be a quality picture on
the screen?

K. Gavin,

You ask a lot of questions! It's no problem :)

The best way in powerpoint is

Insert > pictures > from file

Not Edit > paste

What version of powerpoint are you using?

The other thing to keep in mind is what format (png jpg gif etc) and how many pixels!

Why are my PowerPoint files so big? What can I do about it?

Depending on the kind of picture, Enhanced Metafile often gives good quality
with reasonable space usage (a bit bigger than pasting as a Picture).

Use [Edit]-[Paste Special]-[Picture (enhanced metafile)]

I find this gives good resolution for screenshots.
