picture being distorted when saved

I created a banner in Paint and then pasted it into fp. It looked great
until I saved it, and then it became very distorted. I saved it as jpg and
jpeg and didn't make a difference. Any ideas?
 
It's be easier to help if you provide a URL to the image so we can see it.
How did you actually create the banner...from some other image...what kind
of image was that...did you change the dimensions without keeping the aspect
ratio...can be a lot of things.
 
Changing an image's extensions cannot affect how it displays, except if you
change the correct extension to an incorrect one, e.g., image.jpg ->
image.hoohaa, the browser won't display it at all.

As Steve points out, the most common reason something like this would happen
is that you have resized the image in the HTML on the page.

You made the banner in 1 size and have it on the page in another size.
You have to make the banner in the same size it will be displayed.
