Picture and Fax Viewer

Using XP Pro SP2 and when I double click on a jpg file the "Windows and Fax
Viewer" opens to view the picture. That part is ok, but when I click on the
button "Closes the program and opens the image for editing" button. A third
party Hex Editor that I have, opens up. I don't want that, and like to set
it to open with a photo editing program. How do I change that setting? I
did look in the Hex Editor program and there's no setting to make it the
editing program.

Thanks for the help.

I tried the suggested program below and sorry to report, it did not fix the
problem. The Hex Editor still over rides everything. I uninstalled the Hex
Editor, then used the image editor program to set the editor. Still it did
not fix my problem, and this time nothing happens, that is, no editor at all
opens. I went to the reg location and the info is being written to like it
should. I even restarted the computer.

Any other suggestions??? Like to get this fix if possible. I think the Hex
Editor must have corrupted the reg file for this feature.

The image editor entry is well set as you indicated. Wondering if a shell
extension is blocking the image editor from being opened. If that's the
case, you can troubleshoot it using the procedure given in this page.

One thing I noted is that the JPG files have been associated with MS Paint.
If you want to reset the association, type this in Start, Run and press
Enter:

cmd /c assoc .jpg=jpegfile
 
Hi,

I downloaded and ran "shexview" and a pretty long list came up. I
really lucked out and chose the first entry to disable. It worked, I
now have the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer Editor button working. I went
ahead and ran "imgeditor" and used All file types and set the photo program
I wanted to be the editor, clicked apply. Choosing All File Types didn't
work, MS Paint still showed up. So I had to choose each file ext
individually, which did work.

Oh! I reinstalled the Binary Hex Editor, and yes, the Windows Picture & Fax
Viewer used it instead. However, I ran shexview again, disabled the Hex
Editor entry which fixed it.

A Big THANK YOU for taking the time to solve this problem.

The funny thing is, these are Context Menu commands which means these would

I won't miss it being disabled. Maybe I should inform the two software
makers about the conflicts their program is causing?
