pics from documents

just got the windows xp
tried saving pictures from the net to my pictures and my
documents
when trying to bring up the pic...windows says cannot
find. i realize this is very basic but i have tried
everything

on the old windows 98 it was not a problem
what am i doing wrong?

You need to be more specific about how you are trying to
save pictures and from what web pages.

You probably know this but this is what works for me on WinXP... .

Find a picture on the web using IE.
Right click on the picture and select "Save picture as".
An explorer windo should open (probably showing the My Pictures folder by
default).
Make a note of the name of the file it proposes (eg where it says "file
name")
Navigate to where you want to save the picture and click "Save".
The explorer window should save the file (normally in JPEG format) and
close.

If you then navigate to the same folder via Start -> My Documents -> etc you
should be able to find where your picture file was saved.

Are you getting this far? Can you find the file OK?

If you can find the file....

What happens if you

a) Double click on it? Which application starts if any?

or

b) Right click on it, select "open with" and choose "Paint"? Does the
picture load into Microsoft Paint Ok?
