Pics and mp3 opening slowly ??

Can anyone suggest a cure for this problem:

I have XP Pro installed and most of the time whenever i click on a .jpeg it
takes about 5 seconds to open, mp3s are the same. About 10% of the time they
open instantly. Also when i right click on a file or right click on the
desktop to create a folder, it takes about 5 seconds for the right click
menu to appear.

I have thoroughly checked the system for spyware, viruses, bugs, trojans
etc. I have avast anti-virus and the full ZoneAlarm virus suite, so i don't
think it's virus related. XP was only put on recently and so shouldn't be
clogged up with useless files.

I have defragged the Hard Drive (actually said i didn't need defrag at this
time)....

Is there anything else i could try ??. Everything else on the PC works fine,
software opens fine, buttons pressed in software work instantly.

Cheers
Andy

If you have installed SP2, i think everyones computers slowed down a
fraction, some more than others. I know mine is a little slower 3-5 sec. but,
"Ya' can't always get what ya' want" LOL! Not sure how to fix it yet, but it
may be normal.

No, i haven't even installed SP1 yet, didn't see a point as everything was
working fine and i'd heard not to install any updates unless there was any
problems.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for posting here!

I would like to know when the problem first occurs. If it happens suddenly,
have you tried to use System Restore to see if it is helpful. In my
opinion, such program must be related to registry key settings. System
Restore should be helpful in this matter.

Let us use System Restore to restore your system to your previous status.

Using System Restore to Restore Windows XP
------------------------------------------

1. Log on to Windows as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators
group.
2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to
System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
3. On the "Welcome to System Restore" page, click "Restore my computer to
an earlier time" (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
4. On the "Select a Restore Point" page, click the most recent system
checkpoint in the "On this list, click a restore point" list, and then
click Next. A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration
changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
5. On the "Confirm Restore Point Selection" page, click Next. System
Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts
the computer.
6. Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration
Complete page appears.
7. Click OK.

Troubleshooting
---------------

You may inadvertently restore Windows XP to a previous configuration that
you do not want. To undo the restoration:

1. Log on to Windows as Administrator.
2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to
System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
3. On the "Welcome to System Restore" page, click "Undo my last
restoration", and then click Next. A System Restore message may appear that
lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
4. On the Confirm Restoration Undo page, click Next. System Restore
restores the original Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the
computer.
5. Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Undo
Complete page appears.
6. Click OK.

For more information about system restore in Windows XP, please refer to
our KB article Q306084: HOW TO: Restore Windows XP to a Previous State

Have a nice day!
