Picasa-similar to iphoto is free because google bought the developers

I'm really excited about this news! Forget Adobe Photoshop Album
Starter Edition (which has features disabled) -- this is a complete
photo package, and it's being offered for free (2-billion-dollar
companies can afford to give away stuff like this).

Difference between trial and full version of Picasa

Q. What is the difference between the trial version and the full
version of Picasa?

A. There is no difference in features between the trial version and
the full version of Picasa, however, the trial version will time out
15 days after the date of first use.

Damn! And I didn't see your warning, Martin, until *after* I'd
finished the download just now -- so I then had a bit of a squiz
around tha site and found the above under "Installation". :-(

Cheers, Phred.
I just opened my copy, and it asked me to register. After filling out
details, I pressed 'register'. Now my copy says that it's registered to me.
No money has changed hands (I'm skint anyway!)

It's also not freeware

Really? I didn't see anything on that page that said it wasn't
freeware, or that it was time-limited or crippled.

I see it defaults to automatic update checks, but the licence even
gives directions on how to disable that.

In what way doesn't it qualify as freeware?[/QUOTE]

It does appear to be free. The Google license says nothing about
payment and the Registration popup has a "Never Register" option.

In RPD, it was mentioned that it sneak-registers, using your OE
default email address, if you wander into the "order prints" dialog,
even if you don't make an order!
