How can I get rid of the xp pic and fax viewer. I have another program I
like to use but xp's snatches control away almost instantly.

Thanks

John

Right-click any image, properties, opens with.. change, scroll to your program.

Yeah, I did that and my program is listed already.

Apparently the XP one is a "preview" program that opens the jpg first. I
can't imagine why. Then, supposedly, I can send it on to my program
while first saving it to a temp folder or something. I don't understand
the purpose of this but, as is the norm with Microsoft, it takes the
easy and simple and makes it complicated and difficult.

You were on the right track with Mary's
suggestion...you just needed one more
step...

Try this...right click an image file and
from the menu, go to......Open With /
Choose Program / Windows Picture
and Fax Viewer...be sure to check the
box..."Always use the selected program
to open this kind of file" / OK.

Here's what worked for me. Right click, then click Properties, then
click "change" even though it says MY program is the one to open it.
Sometimes it did say "windows fax viewer" but even if it didn't fax
viewer opened it. After doing the above everything got fixed.

Thanks all.

The thing is, everything was fine yesterday and somehow they all got
changed to fax viewer. Am waiting to see if it happens again. At least I
know what to do now.

Well, at least your problem is solved.
Thanks for the update.

Another way to accomplish the task is to
open a folder and go to...Tools / Folder
Options / File Types tab...
