Just wondering if there is a relatively easy way to import Slides (which
contain pictures and more) from Powerpoint into Photostory 3

No problem if you convert them to an image format.

The following is an excerpt from the Photo Story
3 help file:

You can import up to 300 pictures, which can be
files with .bmp, .dib, .eps, .gif, .jhif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .
pcd, .pcx, .png, .psd, .rle, .tga, and .tif.
