My newsletter #23 went out late last night... it's about the anatomy of a
Photo Story 2 project file. As I put it together I bumped into an
interesting and strange limitation that can effect those who make stories
with many and large images.
I made a story with 30 pix from a 5 megapixel camera and 40 from a 6
megapixel one.... 70 pictures total versus the Photo Story limit of 150.
When saving the video and project files, I was watching them grow in size
and checking CPU and memory usage to see how well Photo Story was handling
them.... the video rendered and played fine, but the saving process for the
project file (PSC file) really perked me up. Here's what happened:
Photo Story added each picture to the project file, but when the project
reached exactly 300 MB in file size, CPU usage moved up and things sat a bit
as Photo Story pondered what to do..... and then it wiped the file clean and
started over, continuing to add the pictures. When it reached that size on
the second pass, it did it again.
So my saved project file, which would have been 644 MB in size ended up at
44 MB, with only the last few pictures in it.... I got no error message
during the process and wouldn't have known if I wasn't watching it.
When I tried to open the 44 MB project file, I got an error message that it
was corrupt..... yup, corrupt by not having most of its pieces.... I looked
inside the project file and saw that it had only the last 3 of the 70
pictures I had imported to the project.
