In some other messages in this newsgroup I mentioned Photoshop actions
that I used to remove dust & scratches using the IR channel from
VueScan. These actions can now be downloaded for free:

Use these actions at your own risk (see instructions). Feedback is
appreciated.

I compressed the actions with the ZIP command available in Mac OS X. It
is possible that the uncompressed file contains resource fork
information that may confuse the Windows operating system (file names
starting with '.'). Since I currently don't have a Windows PC at my
disposal, I cannot check if this happens. I apologize for any
inconvenience it may cause. If these problems occur, I will try to solve
them next week.

I think using Polaroid's free Dust and Scratch Removal Plugin would be
superior to Photoshops dust filter. First experiments showed better
results IMHO.

Didn't notice any (WinXP).

If you test on a full image, the Polaroid filter is better, yes. But if
you have already narrowed down your selection to an area that only
contains the defects themselves, plus a very small radius around them,
the PS D&S filter is excellent, IMO. The Polaroid filter even takes more
computing time than PS D&S already does in 16-bits mode.
Of course you can replace the D&S filter by the Polaroid filter you you
like.

Thanks for letting me know;-)

BTW I'm well aware that there are still many ways to improve my actions.
In my experience, they are excellent with dust but the distinction of
faint scratches in the IR channel still needs improvement.

Hi Wilfred

I downloaded your action. Unfortunately to doesn't work with Photoshop
5.0.2. Doesn't get past the load actions before Photoshop complains.

But thanks anyway

David
