I have a large number of photos that seem to have disappeared without a trace.I was using them as a screen saver at the time. The photos disappearance seems to coincide with a virus about 12-18 months ago. The photographs were in nikon view 5 ,I assume,I am using xp home. I've done various searches and only ever come up with photos taken after the event. I managed to locate a few images in panoramic maker but when you try to do anything with them it says 'image file not found' ,these images have never come up on any searches either. I would be grateful if somebody could tell me if they can be retreived or they are just lost forever. As you can probadly tell I'm not very familiar with computers ,any news would be a blessing.

many thanks
Debbie

If it was the Loveletter virus that turned all the images into files with
vbs extensions, then unfortunately, they are no more. ALWAYS back up
anything you really want to keep onto a CD or DVD... and ensure you're
adequately protected from viruses in the future.

You might want to do one more search for all image files and see if anything
'appears'. Start, Search, Search for Pictures and Photos.

The only thing I remember about this 'virus', is a message appeared on the screen saying that you had to get off your computer within a given time and to close all open programs, but you couldn't access anything,in the end I just unplugged the computer, perhaps that was the wrong thing to do,but you literally had no way of doing anything with the computer-even something as basic as shutting down. I have tried the final search you suggested previously, several times over in the past with no success. Many thanks anyway for taking the time to answer my question ,maybe now I can except defeat.
thanks
