I am looking to buy a new photo printer. I am currently looking at two
models the HP 7550 and the Canon i960. We are looking to print pictures on
4x6 and have probably 500 pictures that we want to print from our archives
plus all the new ones taken from our Kodak 4mp camera.

Does anyone have any input on these two printers?

Thanks

I have no experience with either printer, but I do have the Canon i860. It is
the little brother of the i960 you are looking at.

What I like about the Canon.....

1. holder for 4x6 paper sits right on top of the printer, always ready to go.
Holds 20 sheets of 4x6 that the printer can print borderless on. 8x11 paper
sits right behind it ready to go also.

2. auto power on and off with selectable offtime. This is a really nice
feature, since you don't have to ever remember to turn the thing on or off. All
printers should have this.

3. Output is at least as good as what you can have printed at any 1 hour lab.
Better than most, really. And this from a printer with only 3 color cartridges.
The i960 has the extra photo inks, so will be even better, and faster at photos.

4. So quiet you can hardy tell its working.

The HP probably does a fine job, but I can't comment on it. I'm sure someone
will.

Go with the canon.

Dude, go with the Canon. You can't beat their prices, quality,
individual ink tank system, or support. I have had only one problem with
canon in the last 8 years. My S600 printhead died. But hey, I must have
printed about 20,000 color and B&W pics/documents with it (that's no lie!)
So, I probably tortured it to death. I had a BJC4000 that lasted for 5
years! Now I have an i900d and the thing, coupled with inexpensive Ilford
paper, can work miracles. The 4x6 prints look identical to actual photos.
Trust me, go with the Canon.
If you are going to only print documents, go with a B&W laser printer
for 200.00. They print more copies at a cheaper cost.
