I was reassigned out of the US for the last 3 1/2 years. I was using PD V2
in Europe and elsewhere before my return. Now it has been lost in the move
back and I'm wondering (since it is old now by Internet standards) if
someone else has released something better? I am still vaguely familiar with
PSP, PhotoImpact and, of course, PhotoShop. I bought FP 2003 two weeks ago
and am getting up to speed with it again but I do miss PD.

I found a copy of V2 on eBay. Thanks very much for any suggestions.

Hi Bill,

PhotoShop is arguably the best there is..but comes with a big price tag and
learning curve. For many people it is really overkill as to their needs. If
choosing between PhotoImpact and Paint Shop...they are both very
good..personally I like PhotoImpact better (I keep downloading trials of
Paint Shop..but can never find any compelling reason to switch)

If you can find an old copy of PhotoDraw..and it suits your needs..you may
not need anything else! :-)

Please tell me why you mention PhotoImpact. Is the latest version better
than PhotoDraw V2?

Hi Bill,

I can't compare it to PhotoDraw..because I never used PhotoDraw.

I do believe that PhotoImpact (Ulead) does a better job at optimizing images
and digital photography (among other things) than Paint Shop. But the two
programs are really very similar..it mostly comes down to which one you find
to be more intuitive.

Oh well...

You might want to give a look at Photoshop Elements 3 also... you probably
don't need the full version of PS!!!

I looked at the web page and noticed that you specifically say that
graphics should be imported into FP, as opposed (presumably) to just
copying them into the images folder.

I'm curious as to what difference it makes.

Thank you.

I like Fireworks but Photo Impact, PaintShopPro and many others will work
equally well. You might try downloading the 30 day trials of various
graphics editors and see which one you like. Then buy that one.

When you import the images, FP automatically updates it index files to include the new content,
whereas copying the files into the images folder via Windows Explorer / My Computer or saving
directly from another application bypasses FP function of maintain it's index files.

Importing them into FP is the way that best assures that all will work well.
It is the recommended method!

I reread your article and then saw the comparsion links at the bottom. Maybe
PI is the best value after comparing the 4. Thanks.
