I recently purchased a wide screen monitor. I love the extra space for
multi-tasking in windows applications, but it distorts my photo library. Is
there a way to set some global setting so that image files will be viewed in
thier original aspect ratio?

I would expect to find a setting for the
monitor that preserves aspect ratio.
Check your documentation.
