Photo Story 3 Editing questions

1.) Is there a way to change the view time between each picture from 3
seconds to 5 seconds?

2.) I have attempted to remove black borders on portrait pictures, but it
cuts off half the picture. I then tried to rotate the picture into landscape
and I can then crop out the black borders. I then saved it and rotated it
back but the black borders re-appear. All my landscape pictures have no
black borders. It's the portrait ones that I can't seem to correct. Any
ideas would be greatly appreciated.

When you crop an image in Portrait
orientation you must remove content
from the top, bottom or both. In order to
accomplish this in PhotoStory 3...

Select the image to be cropped and click:
Remove Black borders.

The Removing Black Borders screen will
appear with a section of the image framed...
if you wish to adjust this frame you can move
it up or down....when you have the main
subject framed to your satisfaction...click...
Next. And...you can drag the corner handles
to zoom in on a subject. And you can move
the frame by dragging the 4 way arrow.
*Important* Do not allow the selection frame
to move beyond the edge of the image into
the blue area. If it does...you will still have
black portions in the image.

John, thanks for the taking the time to help.

I'm still having trouble cropping. I can highlight the area that I want to
include but when moving the arrows it expands outside the picture area and
thereby causing the black borders to re-appear when I save it. All that I
desire to do is to crop vertically, but instead it goes out horizontally.
Any ideas?
 
it automatically maintains a standard 4:3 aspect ratio for the selection....
you'll have to decide where to do the selection, but don't let it go into
the black space.

It just takes practice...and you have
to look closely to be sure the
frame is not beyond the edge of
the image.

You just have to be careful when
you drag the selection frame.
When you release your mouse
button after dragging...you should
be able to see if there is a border.
If there is a border...reposition the
frame.

Try reducing the size of the frame
slightly by dragging one of the corner
handles in...this will give you some
maneuvering room.

Just remember you can move the
frame up, down, left and right...by
dragging the 4-way arrow. And you
can increase/decrease the size of the
frame by dragging the corner handles.

Maybe you would do better if you crop
the images *before* youi import them
into PhotoStory. The freeware Faststone
Image Viewer has a good crop tool. The
Faststone crop tool will not allow the selection
frame to extend beyond the edge of the image.
Just crop to 4:3 ratio. Once cropped...go to...
File / Save As...give the file a new name and
a save location. This way your original will
be untouched.
