photo size in slideshow html?

My photos are 3 by 4 inches, but are appearing much bigger onscreen. I
believe most users would have to scroll to see any of them, which is kind of
silly on a moving slideshow. If I use the small version of a photo that has
been thumbnailed, I get the correct thumbnail size. I'd do that to all of
them but I don't want them that small. Any way to get a happy medium? I have
pasted the code on the page, below the slideshow box. Anyone care to take a
look? Am I correct that this is going to require scrolling for most users?

you're images are much bigger than that.
the jeep one is 852 x 1085 at 230dpi and the file size is 300+k

you need use an image editor (NOT FP) to change them to 72 or 96 dpi and
redimension them to the final size you want displayed and then optimize them
for smaller file size (you can use IrFanview for this if you want...its a
freebie)

are you displaying the html & scripting on that test page intentionally?

In my experience you are best not letting users do ANYTHING to the image. I
prefer doing all the adjustments, I tell them to send me the best quality
image file they have, then I do everything else.

Then I use IrFanview to batch process them the same way everytime..and save
the original in one folder, the processed web-ready ones in a different
folder.

Thanks Rob, but that's not the kind of arrangement we have. These clowns
would bombard me with stuff, one at a time and all urgent of course, and I'd
spend all day re-sizing and adding captions. I have told them that their
content needs to be ready for prime time.
 
Believe me I know! They send me all kinds of junk...but again it's usually
easier for me to just do it.

Just give them the parameters you want... jpg, width, and compress to lets
say 75%...or whatever you decide. The width you give them should be for the
large display size, and you create the thumbnail from that.

Good luck!! I've been TRYING for YEARS to get people to send me plain old
TEXT files and not formatted in Word or Corel and layout out with 4 million
spaces! I try to make it easy for both them and me and what do I get? It's
unreal how many people don't what a Tab is...sheesh

Hah! Now you've got me started. these people liked my personal and business
websites so they asked me to take theirs over. Then they told the members
they could make suggestions. So one person, who admits she doesn't know how
to use the internet, has sent me 3 pages of the most inane suggestions you
ever saw. I mean I swear I am being punk'd! She asked me to review another
website and make ours like that one. It isn't even a website - it's a
discussion board covered in flashing banner ads. Mind you, I am in Maine and
this group is in Nevada. I have NO control over content. Yet she goes on and
on about how their member petition is too confusing. Now she's asking me for
a slideshow with captions. I have referred all of her suggestions to the
board of directors because even if they did make sense, the next member could
ask me to change it all back.
 
Ah the Design by Committee nightmare. Been there done that. I tell them if I
have to deal with more than one person my fees multiply for each person that
makes a "suggestion" - I'm too grumpy to deal with inane suggestions.

I figure they should funnel and filter the ideas, I should not have to sort
though their bin of mindless drivel.
