Hi,
I have an Epson C82. I know that when glossy photo paper is selected that
black is made up of CMY. What I would like to know is, does the some hold
true for semi-gloss paper? I haven't been able to find Epson semi-gloss
paper in my area and the sales people don't seem to know much about paper.
Have any of you with a C82 tried this type of paper? What type of results
have you had, good or bad? How about a third party paper such as Red River?
I rarely see this type of paper mentioned here or elsewhere.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, semigloss uses cmy and no black, it states this somewhere, maybe on
the Epson UK site. You can prove it by printing some semigloss and the
black will not go down. You can get this and official cartridges from
the atlex.com site, referred to by the link on the official Epson USA
site, cheaper than anywhere. Results are pretty good, remembering that
the C82 in an archival printer using pigmented ink and never will be as
super as dye based ink that prints photos that don't last long, unless
you use a canon I850, etc. or something similar.

Additional note:

I prefer the Epson enhanced matte paper myself, more vivid blacks (using
the black cartridge) and the Epson premium bright white paper (thin
paper) gets excellent results also using the black cartridge. All these
are available from Altex.com. Just chose your printer on the site and
it will show all the papers suitable for that printer.
I have not had good results with other than Epson papers, other than
regular plain paper which I get from Wal-Mart. I use this
C82 for archival photo printing and use an old Epson 740 with a CIS
(continus ink supply) aystem installed for regular every day printing.
