Hello,

I know you can edit the Photo Gallery by opening up the real.htm after you
create the gallery in FrontPage 2003.

I'd like to know if I can edit the template BEFORE, so that every time I
create a Photo Gallery it will create it how I want it.

If I can't do that, is there a way to create a template from scratch and
somehow get FrontPage to recognize it as an add-in or something?

Thank you.

Don't think you can do that since the gallery isnt generated till you create
it.
Take a look at JAlbum (its free, skinnable, and easily imported into FP)
maybe it will work for you.
Besides FP's slideshow gallery is not cross browser friendly...it's will
break in browsers other than IE>

Rob,

Thank you for the response. I'll take a look a JAlbum. The biggest thing for
me is ease of use. I work with several others who will be doing web site
maintenance, and I want to minimize the amount of steps needed.

I liked the FrontPage Photo Gallery because all you had to do was open up
the page in FrontPage, double-click the exising Photo Gallery, and add/remove
photos and captions as necessary. Then publish.

Does JAlbum somehow integrate smoothly into FrontPage like that. Are there
any other suggestions on a customizable gallery that is that easy, or almost
that easy?

Thank you.

Matt

I just looked at JAlbum. It looks very nice but it uses JAVA.
I'm in the Navy on a ship. Many of my site visitors will be on other ships
that can have very limited bandwidth, plus the computers are sometimes set in
a high mode of security and don't have JAVA installed, let alone Flash.

I have had success with Javascript...

Hi Matthew,

As Kathleen mentioned Java is only needed on your computer for creating the
albums with Jalbum..those who end up viewing the albums will not need to
have Java installed. There are some skins/themes that you could use that
might require Flash for viewing...but there are many more that do not and
simply work fine without it.

The others have answered those questions for you...

To use JAlbum the simple way is to create your new gallery into a folder
OUTSIDE of FP's website. When you are happy with the way it looks & works,
then you; File | Import (Folder) INTO your website. Then create a link from
your site to the first index file in that folder you imported. It's really
that easy...but you CAN make it much more complicated if you like :-) You
can make all sorts of changed when generating the JAlbum with JAlbum itself.
You can also edit the html pages once they are inside of your website
(experiment !)
