photo galleries

how do i get the text i type in the description and caption boxes in
horizontal or vertical photo galleries to actually display? as soon as i
type it in and press OK, it disappears and is never displayed on the page.
then when i go back to edit it, it's gone like it was never typed there in
the first place.
