I had an idea after talking to our resident camera guru Quad, and thought I'd post about it here to see what people would think.

As we all live in different places and most of us have a digital camera, I thought it might be quite fun to take photos of our local area to show everyone what it's like. Floppy and Ciri have posted some photos like this before and it was fascinating to see what London/NZ is like for a local!

Would many people be up for participating in this, if so I'll set up a new section in the gallery for it and we can all have a go :D

Thats a good idea, although not many places of interest around here

I shall try my best over the next week or so ;)

I'll take some photos of my area when its sunny :D (and when there aren't any youths patrolling ..)

:D

Off to borrow a digi camera, what to take is easy the nicest part of the whole of the UK, The West Country:thumb:

That's the thing, although your locale may seem really dull and boring to you, cos you see it everyday, to other forum members it will seem interesting. I've already found this out.

People who live elsewhere other than the UK are particularly interested.

In the same way Ciri has posted pix from NZ and I've seen great pix from America and Canada at the other Forum I frequent, BBF.

I'm sure if you walked the riverside there Mr Dread, you'd find some interesting shots.

As an example, here's a riverside walk I went on last October: Thames

i will be taking somepictures of my area over the next week or so will post them up when i have some.

Whoops. I just went & checked my photos & saw that I put one image up twice :o
Is it possible to remove the spare?
I think a category for home photos would be an excellent idea :D
My piccys are scattered all over the place cos I didn't really know where to put them :)

& Trip, flops is right! I would love to see some piccys of where you live. It might seem ordinary to you, but it's all new to us :D. Check out Flops photos, they were fantastic. Often it's the things that aren't the 'tourist attractions' that can catch the feel of a place & the interest of the viewer :)

You can reduce the image size & mb try to aim for 600x480 or 480x600 ...

http://www.download.com/IrfanView/3000-2192_4-10021962.html

;)

thanks for that

i got it to 640 x 480 and the file size gets to 1.38mb

when i went to 800 x 600 the file size is 900kb

its that way or the other way around

they qualty of the image don look the same tho :(
twhats the max the file can be per pic in order for me to post it?

You ain't entering any competition and quality will/can suffer ... reducing the image size should reduce the MB size ... we need some space on the server for the Forums. ;)

Ian will be able to tell you what is an ideal size, I just went by what is already in the Gallery & I didn't see any over 640.

lol

yes its no competition but the beauty of the pictures will really suffer
whats the point of having 6mp if the end result is 1mp!?

'Cos we ain't a printing service ... you wanna "blow-up" your 10x8 then a 6mp pic will be nicer than a 30k one ... however, a 30k pick for the internet is ideal.

As I said, we aint running no competition, but we would like to have some space left on the server. ;)

Go and get your own Host and then post us a link ... as Floppy did in his walk-about ... that way we won't have to pay for the bandwidth either.

If you don't know how to manipulate your 'picks' for the Internet, time to use Google & learn ... or you could start a new thread and I'm sure Quad would steer you in the right direction.

PSD, In Irfanview when you save the pic after resizing it you can use the slider in the window that opens when you hit save or save as, if its a jpeg or gif image.

Just move the slider a little to the left, Anywhere near 75-80% will be fine. :)

As mucks has said, you will have to slim down the pic and file size, for the servers sake and anyone on a slow internet connection. ;)
