I have exactly the same problem with my new XP Pro and I
downloaded the Adaptec UDF Reader from download.com…….My
system did recognized the disk and I downloaded all my
photos.
I thought my problem was solved until I tried to open one
of my old works files with the text converter (This had
previously been working fine) my computer crashed
instantly. XP Pro recovered itself after about two
minutes, and identified UDF Reader System at address
F4DEFOlF as the problem.
Finally had to remove the UDF Reader so I could open my
old works files, but did recover my photos.

Don’t mean to interrupt thread, but hope he comes back

Well I Just used the UDF reader to down load all my data from those old CDs then dumped the reader. Except for conflict with the UDF reader, the works text converter works just fine.
