Can anyone in the group recommend freeware to burn photos onto a CD or DVD
which can then be viewed in a DVD player?

thanks

Does your DVD player read JPG files.
Some DVD players have this capability and if this is the case you only
have to copy jpg files to DVD and it will play the files as slide show
Mine is capable of this and has zoom function also.

If the DVD player is capable of displaying JPG files then this is what
you have to do:
some jpg (if not convert them with IrfanView http://www.irfanview.com/)
burning software ( burnatonce - http://www.burnatonce.com/ ; burn4free
http://www.burn4free.com/ ; CDBurnerXP Pro - http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ ;
DeepBurner - DeepBurner ; Easy Burning - http://www.paehl.de/cdr/ ;
FreeBurn - http://freeburn.sourceforge.net/ ; CDR Tools Front End -
http://demosten.com/cdrfe/)

Also this useful utility to use all space of your cd-r or cd-rw Burn to
the Brim - http://bttb.sourceforge.net/

If the DVD player does not have the capability to display jpgs you will
need something like this Photo to VCD/SVCD Creator Lite -
http://www.nu2.nu/photovcd/ or the others suggested by those who replied.

Even if the manual of DVD player doesn't say that is capable of
displaying the jpgs you can test it, burn some jpgs to a cd-rw
(rewritable so you don't waste it) and put it on you DVD player.
