Bill

Have outlook 97 running on xp home.

On previous MS operating systems, when I entered a string
of numbers into a phone field, Outlook automatically
formatted the data to (@@@) @@@-@@@@ (@ = correct number
input).

I'm not sure if it occured when I changed OS or if some
other system modification caused it but now the number
shows in contacts with no formatting (just ten numbers in
a string). If I manually insert the formatting as above
the field shows +1 (@@@) @@@-@@@@.

Since it is very difficult to read the numbers
unformatted, I would like to simply input the ten digit
string and let outlook format for me without the +1, like
before.

I have searched everywhere I know in the system to find
someplace to specify the correct formatting with no
success.

Do you have any suggestions?

Bill

Set your dialing location correctly.

Remove the option to automatically add the country code (Contacts > Call
Contact > New Call... > Dialing Options)

I ran into this problem when I was stripping out services under Windows
XP.

I turned off telephony services on boot and that killed my
autoformatting in Outlook.

I just turned it back on again. (Can't believe this feature relies on
both a service AND area code entry)

Hope this helps.
