I'm looking for a piece of software that'll let me make telephone calls
through my computer and record the conversation.

If you add this to your postings header or to the first line of your

Have a look at Skype. The program is free and enables you to make free voice
contact with other Skype users worldwide. It also has SkypeOut which can
used to make calls to telephones in many parts of the world at a reduced
rate.
