phone device software

my evo laptop is almost 7 years old and stuff.
it is a phone edition laptop and stuff.
since it is a phone model pc, i wanna get software for it that will let it
startup the gprs modem and have basic phone features and stuff without
booting windows. i want the software to do a few other things as well, like
being able to reprogram the quicklaunch buttons for use in the phone
application. there are only 6 buttons i wanna reprogram,including the volume
buttons. i want the buttons to do different things depending if the notebook
is closed or open. i want it to work a certian way so that i can leave the
notebook on all day and just have the phone software on and not windows. the
phone software should work in a way so that it uses very little power
allowing the notebook to be on all day.


can someone please help me find something like that so that i can use the
phone hardware and stuff in the notebook without starting windows?

If you don't want to boot windows, then Linux is the ticket. And there
are "live CDs" that will allow you to try linux without modifying
Windows.

As for reprogramming the buttons, go fish. You'd have to write your own
driver. And you'd have to write the "phone software" yourself. The same
thing goes for power consumption, there are BIOS settings you can set,
but I doubt it'll be enough to let you leave your laptop on all day on
battery power.

i don't wanna use linux. i have two batteries in my notebook, the main one
and then the multibay battery. when the multibay battery is in the notebook
i can't use the dvd drive. i can either have one multibay device installed
at a time. the multibay battery, the dvd drive, the floppy drive, the ls-120
drive, or the zip drive.

i already have an application that boots without windows. quickplay is an
application that can do that. applications that can boot without running
windows usually use less system resources and then end up using less battery
power. if i do get the kinda software that i want, i want to have it so that
the mulibay drive port is inactive along with a few other ports and devices.
i have software within windows that can reprogran all of the quicklaunch
buttons so i guess if i try to write my own application i guess i can take
some of the code out of that and put it in the application i wanna try to
make.

i wanna try to find the software i want first before i attempt to make my
own. i have a very long lasting battery in my laptop, dispite its age. the
main battery will last up to 3.5 hours. 1.5 hours if you use it to watch a
dvd while on battery power. i benchmark the system performence. i already
know how to get some applications to run without booting windows.

so, will you please just help me look for what i want?

What you want is specialized. Very Specialized. Quickplay is a
generalized application, it plays DVDS, there's a market for it. There
are lots of applications that are Boot CDs in and of themselves, they
mostly hardware diagnostics, and firmware or BIOS upgrades, also OS
rescue and virus recovery. Things Windows cannot DO very well. This is
mostly aimed at computer geeks.

The only other class of such software, are "LIVE CDS." Linux "live" CDs
are very cool, you can customize them to any degree you desire. If
you're willing to do the legwork, you can strip them to virtually
nothing.

Right now, the market for what you're after consists of 1 member: you.
And you want it "just so" with a dozen special equirements that few
people ask for. ITs NOT something that exists on the open market.
When companies want some special software that deos not exist on the
open market, and they have special requirements, they will hire someone
(or several someones) to write it. Individually, the requirements are
not so tough: Reprogramming buttons being the easiest. Taken together,
plus the requirement that it be standalone and bootable, you have a
Custom Project.

It would take me several weeks to several months for a project like
this, working full time, depending on how much code was available in
free libraries.

And I already have a full time job....

If you're serious, and ambitious enough, you'll have to start at the
bottom. Develop designs, research individual components. One method
that works well for me, is to write a series of small, test apps, for
the individual components. Little things, like, I pressed this button,
and a message appears. Once you tackle little pieces, the project
doesn't look so daunting. Then you can apply what you've learned to the
overall project.

You'll have to do a LOT of research, and find what documentation you
can. Find out how the easy access buttons work, do they just generate a
keycode, for example? If I couldn't find out by research, that's one
thing I'd write a little application to test.
 
i know how the easy access buttons work but i'm not sure about other stuff
and plus i do not know how to [rogram or anything.
