Hello,

I have a Philips JackRabbit JR24CDRW USB CD re-writer which works fine under
Windows 98. However, I also would like to use this device on Windows 2000
but I can not find a driver that will work with Windows 2000 anywhere.

Does anyone know of an alternative driver that will work, or is it just a
case of installing GiveIO?

Regards,

JOHN

AFAIK, Win2k should not need a driver for this. I'm
assuming it's at SP4 level. Did you try connecting it yet
and if so, what was the resulting evidence of it not working
if anything?

If your burning app doesn't recognize it as a burner but it
works as a reader, it seems more likely that app needs it's
database updated.

Hello, thanks for your quick response!

Well, I am unsuare about the SP4 - Win2k was installed by someone else.
However I have tried connecting the Jackrabbit and installing the driver
(Win98). The software finds the drive (not sure of any specific details -
it was a while ago). When I tried to write to a disk the thing just kept on
spinning and writing a bit and after an hour I gave up!! Result - one
corruepted disc.

The burning app (BurnAtOnce) finds the drive in Win98 fine, and it works
properly.

Perhaps I shouldn't have installed the Win98 driver. Maybe I ought to
uninstall this driver and let Win2k find the Jackrabbit itself?

You installed the driver before plugging in the Jackrabbit
for the first time, before trying it without the driver? If
so, yes I would uninstall the driver. You might also check
Event Viewer to see if it notes anything.

Have you confirmed that your system's USB ports work
acceptibly with other USB storage devices, and that this
Jackrabbit still works ok on that system running win98, or
was it another system running win98 on which it worked?

Hi Kony

Yes I did install the driver before plugging in the Jackrabbit.

On the Win2k computer the USB ports do work. Also, a PCMCIA USB card has
been tried on this computer with the Jackrabbit. On the Win98 computer the
Jackrabbit still works (both in the PC USB and the PCMCIA USB ports).

So it does look as though I did the wrong thing there by (rather foolishly)
installing the Win98 driver on Win2k. I'm guessing that if I uninstall the
Win98 driver and then plug in the Jackrabbit then Win2k should suggest a
driver.

I will try when I have the chance.

Thanks again,

JOHN

The installer should have been smart enough not to install its drivers
onto Windows 2000, but I wouldn't vouch for any hardware manufacturer in
that regard.

Hello again,

Yep well I uninstalled my driver, plugged in the Jackrabbit and it works
ROFL!

Thanks for the help.
