I have a TDK MF-2HD (MS-DOS) formatted floppy disc that I need to open. I
can get the files up in my computer but cannot open them. I would like to
know how?

Thanks A. Burton.

With what program were the files created? What exactly does "cannot open
them" mean? If you get an error message, please quote it.

Hi. The floppy disc was given to me so I do not know where the files were
created, but a message window did come up and it said FILE CONVERSION with
3 buttons Windows default had the button mark in it, a blank button,
(ms-dos) and another blank button, (other encoding.) Then there was a
window headed PREVIEW and below in the box was several rows of the letter Y
which I assume was some sort of encoding, but when the files come up in My
Computer and I double click them that is what comes on the screen. One of
the files is Microsoft.Word document and if I double click that the contents
appear, but all the rest which are PHP files will not show their contents.

OK, your subject line says "PHD FILES" so I didn't know if that was a
file extension or your thesis.

Filext.com shows only one entry for *.phd files - a "PC Help Desk" file:
http://www.filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=.phd&Search=Search

Does that ring a bell? The person who gave you the floppy must have had
a reason for giving it to you, so you might just ask them what they
expected you to see on the disk. Otherwise, if the files are important
to you, look for file conversion software. I Googled for "file
conversion software" and got these links among others:

http://www.dataviz.com/products/conversionsplus/cp_faqs.html#formats
http://www.acii.com/fmn.htm

Years ago I used something called Quick View Plus for file conversion
for files on very old floppies. I think this is the same product:

Ooops! Sorry to double-post, but I just realized that I looked up .phd
and not .php. So if you really meant .php, here is the Filext.com link:

http://www.filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=.php&Search=Search

Since .php files are used to generate .html files sent to a web browser,
I don't think that is what is on your floppy.
