Phased Out?

FrontPage 2003 is the last version of FrontPage. It will continue to be
supported by Microsoft until January 2011, full support until Jan 2009.

FrontPage extensions are only supported on Windows 2003 servers- other
server types (Unix, Windows 2000) have no support for extensions other
than that given by hosts.

FrontPage has been replaced by Expression Web and SharePoint Designer.
Expression Web is aimed at standards compliant web sites, and has
limited support for FrontPage components. SharePoint Designer is aimed
at SharePoint websites, but has more support for FrontPage Components.
Neither program has any support for VML graphics (WordArt, ShapeArt,
TextBoxes and objects created using the Drawing toolbar).

A trial for Expression Web is available from
http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/download.aspx?key=web

Do not forget the product key obtainable from a link on that page.

|I just read where somebody said Frontpage is phased out. What does that
| mean.

If I were upgrade/change my software, would Expression Web work for somebody
such as myself who has very little understanding of webpage
design/maintenance. I designed the website years ago with using a template
and since I don't know what I'm doing, I've never changed it. Consequently,
it looks terrible and is an embarrassment to me, but I don't know enough to
change anything and I can't afford to have it professionally designed. Any
advice would be appreciated.
Thanks so much, Jeannine

Whatever editor you use, you will always get better results if you know
at least a little about the technologies you are using. For web pages
you need to know at least the basics of HTML and CSS.

Expression Web will point out every syntax error you make, and will
build fairly good, standards compliant web sites from the Design View.
But it needs a guiding hand that knows what it is doing.

The best way to find out if a software package suits you is to try it -
download the trial and key from the link in my earlier post. Expression
Web and FrontPage can both be used to edit the same web (though best not
at the same time) - but make a backup of your existing web and play with
EW and the backup.

Without learning some HTML and CSS, you will be deeply lost in
ExpressionWeb. If FP works for you, stay with it.

"Phased Out" means exactly what it says.

But you can still use Frontpage if you have it. It just means that
Frontpage as a product will no longer be made - no further versions beyond
FP 2003.

Expression Web Designer is the replacement product for Frontpage.
