I have a PC with 6 USB ports and I plug in my USB Netgear
MA111 wireless network device on a peer-to-peer network.
I now have 6 adapters (although I have only one) and Win
XP keep telling me that I cannot configure my Internet
connection to IP address 192.168.0.1 for shared internet
connection because some other LAN is holding on to that
address!
I un-installed, re-installed, re-booted, got rid of the
adapters via Computer-properties-device manager-view
hidden devices, plugged in the USB devices into each USB
in turn and uninstalling them. I got rid of the redundant
devices from the device manager but yet the 192.168.0.1
still remain in use and my adapter number is still not one.
I am now resorting to automatic IP addressing for my
internet access with 192.168.0.1 as an alternative IP
address. How to get rid of these phantom 192.168.0.1 and
6 adapters?
