Phantom Folder

Information: Windows XP Professional. HDD with NTFS.

Problem: I tried to delete some folder. After all of its
subfolders and files had been deleted, the folder became
empty, and I couldn't remove that folder. Everytime I
select it and try to delete it, I get a error
message "Cannot not read from the source file or disk"

What I have done:
- I tried to check my disk for error, but even after
checking it I still could not delete it.
- When I tried to copy a file into that empty folder,
another folder with the same name was created. I could
see the two identical folders at the same time. I could
delete the new folder, but the old one was still there
and could not be deleted.
- When I tried using command prompt to delete it, the
system said that it could not find the specified file.

Could anyone here show me a solution to this? Thank you.

I just found out something interesting. I don't know by
what way that folder has a space at the end of its name.
We cannot create a folder/file with a space at the end of
its name, can we?
I can still enter that folder (but cannot copy things
into it as I mentioned).
Anyone experienced this problem before?
Thanks
