I visited a website that downloaded and installed a bunch
of stuff in my computer including something called PGate
Basic. When I try to uninstall it it sends me to a website
and invites me to download a program which supposedly
uninstalls PGate Basic. However upon restarting PGate
Basic is reinstalled together with a certain Searchbar (i
do not know who publishes it).
Any suggestions as to how to get rid of this problem.
Should I report it to the authorities. It is messing up my
computer. Thank you.

Be very careful installing "stuff" on your computer from a website and best
practice is to always make a backup of your operating system before making
changes and to have for disaster recovery. W2K has the built in ntbackup or
I suggest using something like Norton Ghost which can create an exact image
of your operating system partition. Having said that, see the link below on
parasites/hijacking and how to scan for them and remove them using free
tools. --- Steve

I have 'PGate Basic' on my laptop and fear using the downloaded
uninstall from pgate-basic.com would introduce more spyware. Did you
uninstall the PGate-Basic? and if yes, could you let me know how you
did the uninstall?

Please also cc your msg to (e-mail address removed)

Thanks, -Hua
