So i now own a Gigabyte 8INXP (Same chipset).. and was going to switch
it up for the ASUS because you can OC the ASUS to a 200FSB without
taxing the chipset, apparently, while the GIGA BIOS does not allow you
to do so...

anyway, i scored one off of ebay. but it was not listed as "deluxe",
though it provided a link to the "deluxe" model on the Asus website...
however, upon reading the specs, I see even the deluxe model has SATA
listed as optional as well as 1394 (which is nearly as important to
me... but)... my question is, Do ALL Deluxe models come with SATA RAID
included, and, presumably, 1394?

Here is the link so you can see the cause of my confusion... on that
note, has anyone done this successfully? there is an article on Toms
HardON that makes it look very easy and very much supportable (chipset
runs cool) is how he put it... this is about the only inexpensive
upgrade i have left to make, so i want to do it.

Also, the board should have same exact RAID controller as my Giga, so i
am wondering if i can avoid a new OS/RAID install? that would be nice,
but also unexpected... also, there may be compelling reasons why i
should do a clean OS install anyway, just to be safe...

The way this works, is the same PCB is used for both the Deluxe and
non-Deluxe boards. The non-Deluxe has some of the chips missing,
so the SIL3112 would be removed from the non-Deluxe. They use
different Ethernet controllers, and one board has a gigabit Ethernet
chip, while the other has a 10/100BT chip. So, they look very similar,
but are stuffed with a different mix of chips.

The pictures on these two web pages are deceiving, as the non-Deluxe
should show some missing chips. A picture of the Deluxe was
used for both web pages:

Asus can be lazy sometimes, and makes just one manual for two
boards. They used the word "optional" to mean "may apply, depending
on which board you got". "Optional" does not means you can get an
aftermarket gadget to glue into some spot on the board, to get
the feature. By being sloppy like this, Asus can make as many different
variations as they want at the factory, and can then reuse the manual
material without needing a tech writer.

A repair install is the safest bet, and a PCI SATA card can solve
a missing SATA port problem.

thx... i verified its the deluxe so im ok... on another note, anyone
else here have this board ?

Had two, great for overclocking, very stable, no problems at all.

I have 1 of the first made as it was an asus xmas gift.

It is very stable though I never tweaked it to its full extent as suggested.
Best I got was 155fsb.

never missed a beat in 2 years...
