Can anyone give me a run-down of the efficacy of "Pest Patrol" for virus
detection and removal? It's certainly very good at picking up adware and
malware, does it perform as well for viruses?

Thanks.

However it *does* pick up and remove some viruses as well. This is partly
what I found so impressive. And in my mind some adware/malware/spyware gets
pretty close to being a virus anyhow.

Anyone else actually used it yet? I'd like to know what you think.

I found it false alarming on registry entries which SpywareBlaster and
IESpyAd placed to block rogue CLSID's. It also flagged a couple of
legitimate windows files in my systems folder as CW Trojans.

PestPatrol is a bear to uninstall. I had to manually remove lots of
entries from the registry after the standard Windows Uninstall Program.

So it gets the big thumbs down?

Given what everyone has said, it looks like a mixed bag. Which is a pity.
It's BUS (bloody useful software).

PS Short introduction. I live in Australia. I do tech support in a town of
about 10,000 people (and 20,000 sheep, as the joke goes). I'm the only one
with this level of skill living here. So I'm busy. So sometimes I'm very
VERY tired a lot of the time. Ergo, sometimes my posts may not make much
sense :) This is a plea for mitigating circumstances in advance.

So far, I think that your posts have been quite sensible.

It doesn't work like that, all it does is allow others to tell you that
"it's nappy time" whenever they disagree with you. No disclaimer
will keep the sharks from circling.

Thanks. I didn't feel sensible when I wrote them. I think what made me think
that was all the chunks of my hair on the keyboard when the infections just
kept coming back . . . and back . . . after three days of work. Should have
just rebuilt from the get-go. Live and learn. You know you get to that point
where it's finely balanced whether you should keep going. Or not. And it
starts to become a "I'll beat you yet, you b***ards!" kind of thing. Grrrr.

They'll probably be right.

Heh.
