pesky startups... show your face!

I have a few things that seem to be starting up
automatically and I want to get rid of 'em. They aren't
listed in the startup folder (all users or my user's) and
they aren't listed when using msconfig. Additionally,
they can't be diabled from within the source program.
Are there other places these may be listed? I've also
heard so-so comments about using msconfig to disable
startup items, and that it's more a temporary solution.
Should I head to the registry to hunt these bad boys
down? If so, could someone point me to the right key?

Thanks in advance!

In most cases, with "well-mannered" applications, it's usually as
simple as opening the undesired program and deselecting the option to
"display icon in the system tray" or to "start when Windows starts."

Additionally, Look in the C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up and C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up folders, and in the
system registry, primarily in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.
