You should use Import on Outlook's File menu instead.
Backup is really just a copy. There is no "Restore" in
the backup program, just Open.

I am embarrassed to be asking another question about
copying my contacts from my desktop to my laptop, but I
am lost. I am using Outlook 2002.
Desktop/Instructions for use
1, 2, and 3 are easy enough
4, I change the file name to /personal folders backup.pst
7, I select save backup and exit Outlook
I then go to windows explorer and find the /personal
folders backup.pst file and "send to" my m:/CD-RW

Import a backup into the folders that were themselves backed up? Not a good idea. File | Open is the correct way to access a backed up PST and find just the items needed. Note, however, that the .pst file needs to be on the local drive without the read-only flag set. Outlook can't open a read-only copy from a CD.
