Personal Firewall

I used Kerio personal firewall for a few months. At first, everything
worked fine. Towards the end, my computer crashed a lot and I actually
lost some programs. I eliminated that firewall and my computer is
running fairly smoothly (it still crashes, but very infrequently).

Should I get and use another firewall? (I have a very good AV
program.)

Thank you.

I am a bit puzzled by these remarks. Why and how your PC crashed? And why
you lost some programs?
You reinstalled your OS? Formatted your HD?

So it wasn't the firewall causing this problem?

Preferably yes. Which is this "very good AV"?

Maybe it is time to completely wipe your HD, reformat and reinstall
everything because I am having the feeling your problem goes way beyond
normal procedures.
Before doing so make sure you backup all your important data. Polder-Backup
is very nice easy to use and freeware: http://www.xs4all.nl/~philippo/

Barry,

Try posting to "comp.security.firewalls" , I'm sure you will get some
help there.

I recommend Sygate v5.5 (free or Pro) Its a good firewall
and I have used the various version over the last two years.
Here is the story on Sygate:

Zone Alarm works well for me also , never any problems , plus I run Ad-aware
and Spyware Blaster , seems to work OK

swy seeper is excellent also, it blocks spyware before it is installed like
spywareblaster. www.webroot.com , no i do not work for them, i am just
sharing my experience of excellent software with you. it is a little heavy
on resources though. but is extremely thorough in detection, better than
adaware and spybot by a wholeshot, seriously, it is pc magazine editors
choice for spy removal.

No.

Norton AV 2003, updated constantly.

Just my luck.
