I'm looking for a home use monochrome personal laser printer.
The #1 criteria is RELIABILITY, even though usage will only
average several pages per day. Low profile would be a plus,
since it is going on a shelf with a 12" height limitation.

I've been using a Samsung ML-4500 for about 6 years. Still going
strong. It doesn't quite meet the 12" height, if you include the
paper in the paper feed. That one needs a parallel port, but I
imagine their present models have USB feed. Also works with
Linux. Cost $199 back then.

Thanks. Will check Samsung products for its successor or a lower
profile model. I've decided that the 12" height limitation is
mandatory.

reliable, and sometimes Office Depot, Fry's, Office Max, Staples, etc.,
has it for $30-50 after a rebate. The toner cartridge is easy to refill

Hp laserjet 4L, if you can find one collecting dust somewhere....

I have a HP 1012 I think the newer model is 1020 and it is only 8 1/2 tall
and even with paper coming out is well less than 12 inches. I only paid
75-100 dollars for it and it is great. I will never own another inkjet.

ML-2010 cart is not hard to refill, on an absolute
difficulty scale, but does not have a refill cap so the cart
either has to be disassembled or a hole melted or drilled
into it. Other printers' carts with a refill hole and plug
would be classified as easy relative to it but at least they
don't microchip them so there's no chip to replace or
anything to reset.
