Maybe SmartDB is what you want: ( http://alainlecomte.free.fr/Download.htm )
SmartDB lets you create and use databases easily. Several example databases
are included to demonstrate what it can do and how easy it is to use this
program.
Create records with up to 11 different fields which can be designated text
or numbers;
add a photograph (Format BMP or JPEG) to a record;
records can be ordered by any of the 11 fields;
Each database can be protected and classified as 'read only';
Each database can be printed and a preview is available before printing;
Export in Excel format or csv format;
Import an Excel or csv file to create a new database;
and more!

Or maybe PeopleSaver: ( http://www.webarbor.com/software/default.aspx )
People Saver is a handy database utility for keeping track of all your
contacts. Includes SpamDestroyer e-mail Filtering, ESMTP Authentication,
unique user profiles, and many more features. Create a PeopleSaver database
dynamically with a completly new database engine for the 21st century and a
simple, easy to learn GUI! Define 6 custom fields yourself; Use your own
choice of font; A customizable print form; A removable tree view; Resizable
forms for resolution independence; Dock to the system tray; Store a database
in any folder and more!

Then there is Personnel Manager: (
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/reynolds.christchurch/ at the bottem of the
page) But as far as I read it, it has a lot of manual installation:
Databases with reports designed to analyse attendance, lateness and
personnel/Human resource data. Some of the features/settings may not be
relevant outside the UK but the full Visual Basic source code is included so
you can "tweak" the program to suit yourself.

I havn't used any of them yet, butI would go for SmatrDB (for its simplicity
and Excel/CVS possibilities) Or, it you want a bit more extended, use
PeopleSaver. Your call!

the small , secure one I like is "AddressBook" from ...

http://blaizfree.net/ ......

Not a well behaved program! Home page says "no install"
<http://blaizfree.net/ADDRESSBOOK.HTM>, but when run on my W2k system,
after copying the file to where I wanted it (on my D: drive), it
stores settings and data in

C:\WINNT\Blaiz Enterprises\
C:\WINNT\Blaiz Enterprises\Settings\
C:\WINNT\Blaiz Enterprises\Help\

This is bad. Not an error, but intentional - according to the manual -
which you don't get to see until you install the program.

It also adds to the Start Menu under Programs:

Blaiz Enterprises\
Blaiz Enterprises\Accessories\ [+]
Blaiz Enterprises\Accessories\AddressBook.EXE

yes, thats right - not a shortcut but a copy of the full EXE
in the Start Menu (!) The only positive thing I have to say about the
way it performs the announced "no install" is that AFAIK it did not
seem to add to my registry (settings stored in *.ini file), except for
the start menu entries (and windows own MRU of course).

It seems I am not the only that have experienced this,
and worse - that this is in fact old news, see for example:

Perhaps this one will suite your needs:
Bottin <http://micromeg.free.fr/>

From: <http://micromeg.free.fr/english/progs.html#Bottin20>

<quote>
Bottin is a directory software. It can maintain names and
addresses, phone numbers, photos, voices... It can print
envelops, automatically compose a phone number (with the
necessary prefixes), retain anniversary dates and ring to
remember them, and so on.
</quote>

Not much info on website, but program comes with English help (html)
- and help is also context sensitive - so you can press F1 inside any
given location inside the program and it will jump to relevant section
in the html help. Have not used it my self, but noticed other
suggested it. Just installed it to have a look. Interfaces looks
intuitive. One negative thing: It adds it self to the Windows startup
without prompting/asking for permission (It obviously wants to make it
self accessible from the windows tray when Windows starts. To let it
run at startup and/or from in Tray might be useful/handy, but not
asking for permission to do so is not. For this, and other such
unpolite programs, WinPatrol from <http://www.winpatrol.com> is very
helpful (monitors windows startup apps - among other things - and
warns, lets you deny or accept - when anything (good or bad) gets
added)

Another thing I could not help but notice: When first run it keeps
prompting an error, saying the error will go away once you have first
saved an "envelope file" (saves a format file for printing envelopes).
To get rid of said error I just
added one (empty one) under Tools, Envelope Formats, OK and OK when
promted for save name.

Maybe somebody who have actually used this program for a while will
have something to add here....for or against...

All the best,
