hi,
not going to pretend it was some one else.
It was me. i have created a d/base and as a last thought
intended to secure the base with a password.
Used set data base password.
then being too confident decided to use the security
wizard. bottled out after first next and cancelled.
i now have 4 icons (the d/b is called image fault file)
1. image fault file.mdb
2. Secured.mdw
3. image fault file.mdb
4. image fault file.bak
i then was unable to open 1,3,4 getting 'You do not have
the necessary permissions to use the C:\.....image fault
file.mdb object. Have your system administrator or the
person who created this object establish the appropriate
permissions for you.'
i have been getting this error all the time except, i
turned off the p.c. rebooted and tried opening 3 and was
greeted with a user/pass prompt i entered all passes i
could think of and each time this was wrong except it
opened when i hit enter ie NO PASSWORD
i then tried to remove all passwords (how is this done ??
how do you remove all passes and permissions and
restrictions to get to a completely un-secure dase)
i opened user and group accounts (Under tools)to remove
passwords.
i can open 2 and view queiries?

i played with a new file and realised that the .bak file
is my original d/b.
i've now changed ext to .mdb and e-mail to my
manager...phewww.
one last question, how do yo remove all restrictions?

thanks if youve looked to help
hopefully will help someone else

Some wizards are just mean. Although you cancelled out, it had already made
some changes to your computer. It has joined you by default to the
secured.mdw that was created. You are correct that the bak file is your
original unsecured database.

Open Access (no database). Go to Tools, Security, Workgroup Administrator.
Click on Join, and rejoin the standard system.mdw workgroup that ships with
Access. It usually is located in the windows system folder (you may want to
search your computer for all mdw files before you start to get the path).

If you close Access and reopen it, and then open your renamed bak file, you
shouldn't get any login prompt. Once you are at this point, you can delete
the secured.mdw, the image fault file.mdb and the desktop shortcut that may
have been created. Be sure you don't delete your renamed bak file.
