Sister Mary

I noticed that users could browse through all files on the
network throught the shared folder called profiles. That
is the folder that I shared to make roaming profiles work.
It used to prevent users from opening any other folder in
it but their own. Now anyone can open any folder. So I
removed the everyone from the permissions on the profiles
folder. Now users get an error message logging in. I tried
granting CREATOR OWNER rights but that didn't help. I
granted full control to one user and she can log on
without an error message. How can I give permission to
each user to be able only to open their own folder within
the profiles folder?

Hi Sister Mary

WHen you create a share for profiles you can give everyone full control for
share permissions and everyone full for the root folder but do not create
folders for the users. Let the system do that. For instance. Lets say we
have a folder on the server c:\userprofiles We share this as userprofiles
and give everyone full control. Now in the properties of the user we set
the profile path to \\server\userprofiles\%username%
The system will create the user folder with the correct permissions.

If the folders are already created you need to take ownership of them as
administrator and give your self and the user full control permissions.

If you are running XP sp1 or 2000 sp4 you may have to use this policy on
all the machines to corrct the ownership issue
