I cant remember why I usually avoid workgroups......

I have recently had to deal with an xp workgroup. when I tried (as a user in
the administrators group) tried to chang the permissions the tab wasnt
there!

if I boot up in safe mode , as administrator they appear!

I havent had this problem with domain or AD members, does anybody know what
I am missing here?

allied to that , if I am logged onto PC 1 as joebloggs and connect to a
share on PC 2 (that has a matching account/password to PC 1 ) it seems to
connect as PC 2\GUEST! I always thought that workgroup machine should have
connected as PC 2\joebloggs.....

......aahh now I remember!

Perhaps you can do us a favour and continue avoiding them. Your answers are all in help.

You are using XP Home, XP Pro doesn't have the same security
interface issues, the tools are not hidden.

recieved this from David Candy ...thank you!
I didnt notice that , usually do domains so I am not natrually aware of the
tiny but significant changes to the way xp works in the workgroup
environment. so yes in the heat of the moment I did fail to see two lines in
the millions present in the help document.

Humbly, thank you again David

What about the link on the page that says CLICK HERE TO SEE HOW TO DISPLAY
THE SECURITY TAB. Sorry I'm nasty to people who won't read what's under
their nose.
