Hi,

I have a Win2k machine whose system partition is formated in Fat32.
Any user, including Guest, can open just about any file on the system.
In particular, other profiles. Is there anyway of restricting guest
from accessing other profiles?

Yes, I know that the system partition can be formated in NTFS after the
system has been installed but, I need a less drastic solution.

thanks,

Umm,, there is no other solution. NTFS is what creates folder security.
Basically since you are using FAT32 there is absolutely no local security on
this box. Anyone who is logged in can look at anything. Coneverting to NTFS
is not "drastic". Just use the Convert command line and then you will have
all the security your after. Doing this from the command line will not lose
any data and actually probably free up some space because of the different
cluster sizes between FAT32 and NTFS.

No, there is no way apart from using a filesystem that supports permissions
and that filesystem on Windows 2000 is NTFS.

Using the built-in convert utility to convert to NTFS has been painless in
my experience. Always take a full backup before proceeding, though.
