Hi Kit,
"Remove Network Connections from Start Menu" is one of the policies that
Administrators can set using the Group Policy Editor. If this policy is enabled
Network and Dial-up Connections is removed from Settings on the Start menu; and the
icon still appears in Control Panel and in Windows Explorer, but if users try to
start it, a message appears explaining that a policy prevents the action.
If your computer is a member of a Domain please contact your System Administrator to
discuss this issue. If this is your standalone home computer, do the following to
see if the policy is enabled:
- Click Start, click Run, type the following command and click OK: gpedit.msc
- Navigate to the following node:
User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu & Taskbar
- If the setting for the policy "Remove Network Connections from Start Menu" shows
Enabled, double-click it and change the policy from Enabled to Not Configured.
Also, if you have never used gpedit.msc, and the computer in question is a
standalone(workgroup) computer, keep in mind that policies set using
Administrative Templates will effect all users of the computer (including
Administrators).
