My first message here. I created a database in Access 97 - at work and we
have a network. It worked fine until I was told to assign restrictions. My
users only needed to be able to enter data into a form. After many trial and
errors, and suggestions that I divide the db into FE and BE, and again many
errors, I now have both the FE and BE in one network restricted folder and am
using network shortcuts for the user to access the data entry form. Works,
....except that some users can lock some other users out and even lock ME out!
Nothing is consistent so that the problem can be solved. Network techs say
that all privileges are correct for the group drive folder. Sooooo, it must
be the Access permissions, right? Yes, I've read and done most of the things
listed in the FAQs. Probably not in the right order though. Help me
identify where the users should find their data entry screen - is it still on
the group drive or is it on their machine and it is linked to the group drive
tables? Each time I change the form, I have to provide new network shortcuts
to them. My users are not very computer-savvy so I must make things as easy
as possible so that they won't get overwhelmed. Your suggestions? (do I
need to recreate my db and import the tables, etc?) Thanks so much for your
help. Vera in Las Vegas
