Settng permission with XP pro, simple file sharing off.

1.. After right clicking and selecting properties of a folder, what is the difference between:

· Sharing (tab) > permissions (button) > group or user names
· Security (tab) > group or user names

2.. How do I add a user (Security (tab) > group or user names) from another computer on the network. If I try to specify other locations the other computers are unavailable or not listed.

Thanks

Greg Burgh

1. One is permissions for the share, the other is permissions for the directory. Local users will only encounter the latter. Remote users must pass both tests.

2. You don't for the most part, unless you are on a domain. There may be a way to establish trust between two non-domain machine, but I don't know it.

Did you ever get a reply to your question? I'm having
the same problem.
