When downloading EMail via ThunderBird,a program (I think it is AVG
Free),requests the "master password for the security program". If the
password is not given then no E-Mail is downloaded. This is very
annoying to me. Is it necessary? Is it normal? How can I turn off the
request? I've checked AVG settings and Mozilla ThunderBird settings and
cannot see where I have a choice.
Thanks in advance.

It is Thunderbird that is doing this. I'm not sure what setting
determines this behavior. It does it for me when I add a new account and
ask it to remember the password, but not every day.

See http://forums.mozillazine.org/ for Mozilla Thunderbird help.

it is indeed thunderbird - it means you have chosen to save account
passwords and you have assigned a master password to to the password
store.
