Permanently remove LINKS from favorites?

Is there a way to permanently get rid fo the links folder from my favorites.
My drop down nearly reaches the bottom of my screen now even though I have
categorized everything. I'd love to get rid of the links folder for good
but it keeps coming back - auughh very frustrating.

If you don't want to see the Links folder, then set its attributes to
Hidden.
