Permanently deleting mail from deleted items folder?

Any one found a way of permanently deleting obvious junk mail from deleted
items folder yet or is there any Knowledge Base article on it yet beyond the
one which say that this facility in Office or Outlook doesn't work properly?
 
Generally, emptying the Deleted Items folder permanently deletes the
contents. I'm curious, which KB article are you referring to that "say that
this facility in Office or Outlook doesn't work properly"?

I thought they can still be retrieved from the dumpster (if the server
is configured that way)?

Which KB article? Have you tried Tools/Recover Deleted Items.../Purge
Selected Items ?

If using an Exchange server configured for recover deleted, users can't
disable or bypass it, only empty it regularly.

I didn't say users could disable or bypass the dumpster. I was
commenting on Hal Hostetler's remark:

which I didn't think was quite correct and prompted me to note that
users can indeed recover items even if they had been emptied from the
Deleted Items folder.

To answer the OP's question how to permanently delete items from the
Deleted Items folder: if the Exchange server is configured with a
non-zero "Deleted items retention time": only by purging hidden items
through Outlook's "Recover Deleted Items..."/Purge command; AFAIK this
action cannot be scripted in VBA.
 
Alternatively, hold the SHIFT key down as you delete the message from your
In box will bypass the Deleted folder and permanently remove the message.

For the 3rd time: Not if the Exchange server is configured with a
non-zero "Deleted items retention time"; then items must be purged
through the command Tools/Recover Deleted Items...
 
Sorry for any confusion I may have caused: I was being a bit simpler than
people think

All I want to do is set up a rule within outlook to read junk mail that
comes into the inbox when it is received, delete it, and then have outlook
automatically delete it (if it sees AS SEEN ON OPRAH for example, or VIAGRA
etc or MORTGAGE ) from the deleted items folder rather than keep it for you
to view and then delete manually or by exiting the program.
 
One of the options in the Outlook 2000+ Rules Wizard is to "Permanently
Delete" an item that matches the rule. This would, however, not be a
permanent delete per the previous discussion on Exchange Server's Deleted
Item Retention setting. Items so deleted could still be recovered within
the retention period if the "DumpsterAlwaysOn" registry modification is
made.

I don't think this can be done directly in VBA, only in CDO. For an
example, see <http://www.cdolive.com/deletespammessage.htm>.

OTOH, it should be possible to do it in two steps in VBA: first delete
the item from your Inbox, then from the Deleted Items folder.

Yes, that was the whole problem which MS's programmers can't seem to to
address (or just possibly are being paid NOT to address, - it cant be that
difficult to get a feature built into the program which doesnt work to work
properly): You CAN set up a rule which deletes junk mail by identifying
words in the subject matter and it DOES give you the option of permanently
deleting the message when it reaches the deleted items folder but that
function has never in the past worked.

I wonder if Hal is now right in saying that suddenly it does work and MS has
never released info on this?

I dont care about anyone seeing supposedly confidential info in my pst file
or deleting them therefrom, all I want is something simpler: I want (as do
most other people) my folders NOT to be filled up with obvious junk mail.

And I have another problem which exacerbates this one which I have asked
about but which no one seemed to know the answer which was that my rules (I
cant figure out which one or ones) apply themselves to each message and
CREATE two or three versions of each piece of junk mail and then duly dump
them in my deleted items folder so it is important to have Outlook
permanently delete them so that I don't have to see/check that I dont want
to buy any prescription medications I don't need or see something which had
been on Oprah whoeversheis

I too found that certain rules can indeed create multiple copies of a
message. Try adding "Stop processing more rules" to all rules.
 
Hey, that works pretty well, although when I changed the rule it suddenly
started telling me (on one of my messages) that it can't delete messages
which say $$$ in the subject matter (which was a slightly pathetic way they
used to use about two years ago of getting your attention to a piece of
spam)

In my case, Outlook 2000, C/W mode, used with an Exchange Server. I created
a rule to "Permanently Delete" a message with specific words in the subject
line, sent myself a message with a different email client using my personal
account. The message was, indeed, permanently deleted; my
"DumpsterAlwaysOn" setting (which allows deleted item recovery from folders
other than the Deleted Items folder) would allow it to be recovered,
however, it WAS deleted in place (Shift-Delete) from my Inbox, bypassing the
Deleted Items folder. Note that this rule doesn't work with earlier version
clients (Outlook 97/98) and is a client side rule if used with an Exchange
Server.

So you CAN permanently delete a piece of mail in Outlook 2000 or XP (without
using exhange server) if you don't put it in the 'deleted items' folder
first? I must try that on all my 'Ass seen on Oprah' spam first!!

Hi Hal

That doesnt work: I arragned to put them in the journal folder and
permanently delete them and when one came in I was told that I dont have
permission to permanently delete them (I am administrator in Windows 2000)
